13th Canadian EdTech Leadership Summit

Over the course of two days, I learned about national and global EdTech trends and gained insights into teaching and learning strategies with education and technology. I also listened to a roundtable panel of presentations from various leaders and representatives. My favourite part was the keynote speaker on the Global Perspective on the State of EdTech. Additionally, I got to explore and try out some of the latest education technology, such as the newest model of the SMART Board.

I spoke to a wide range of exhibitors and representatives from each booth about my education employment opportunities. Including, English school boards in Quebec and Ontario, employers for summer jobs, and international teaching opportunities.  I also attended the English Montreal School Board and Lester B. Pearson School Board info sessions.

Lester B. Pearson School Board PED Day

During my FE4, I attended and participated in my host schools' PED day. We listened to a motivational speaker who spoke about perseverance, determination and the meaning of life. We also did a mindful painting workshop with the staff and team.

In my FE4 seminar class, a doctoral student in the McGill Department of Integrated Studies in Education spoke to us about managing our diverse future classroom. We learned about instructional designers, predicting and designing for students with different variabilities, identifying barriers, and creating lessons with firm goals but flexible means. During the workshop, we also discussed the difference between UDL and differentiated instruction.

First Aid & CPR Workshop

In my FE4 seminar, our course TA conducted a first-aid workshop to prepare us for minor injuries and emergencies that could happen in our class. We learned about some of the more common occurrences within a classroom, such as head injuries, choking, sprained ankles, allergies (epi-pen), and epilepsy seizures, as well as how to perform CPR.

This info session spoke about the expectations and realities of teaching abroad. The presenters spoke about job searching to the interview process to the potential costs. This info session was extremely informative and helpful as I am interested in teaching abroad in my future career.

Creativity and Imagination in Schools

During FE3 seminar class, I did a group research project on creativity and imagination in schools (information is derived from the reading by Mandy Hollands). Check out the presentation here!

During FE3, I attended a mindful mediation workshop. In this workshop, we were given resources and ways to incorporate mindful meditation in our classrooms. The presenters did a guided meditation with us that could be used in our classroom too.

LBGTQ Workshop

In my FE3 seminar class, we had the opportunity to participate in an LGBTQ workshop. The guest speaker spoker provided us with information about gender identity and expression and how we can teach and promote this in our classrooms.
