Classroom Library

These are some of my favourite books that I have collected or would like to add to my classroom library. As diversity is important to me, I choose books that represent the diverse classroom, community and world we live in. Including diversity related to gender, ethnicity, socio-economics, culture, religion, language, disability and students’ conceptions, needs and areas of interest.

Classroom Design
I have illustrated my ideal classroom spatial and physical organization of the classroom. The diagram includes important elements that I value in an elementary classroom.
Groups of 4 seating: To promote collaboration and a harmonious work environment.
Flexible seating: Giving students flex seating options to adapt to the needs of students.
Calming Corner: To give students a space to destress, relax and refocus when needed. Can also be used for mindful meditation/breathing time.
Mindful Activity Shelf: Having mindful worksheets such as colouring and reflections. It can also include extra worksheets or challenge worksheets for early finishers.
Reading corner: To promote reading throughout the year (books change seasonally and include all cultures). It can also be used during individual reading time, during class story time, and a space for small groups/centers.
SMART Board/whiteboard: Using a mix of technology and traditional pencil and paper.
Windows/plants: Natural light and nature within the classroom walls; having plants that the students take care of.
